Location: Reading, Pennsylvania Client: Colonial-Berks Real Estate Scope of Work: To make way for the proposed expansion of Meridian Banks Downtown Operations Center, the Reading News Building (originally located north of the Colonial Trust Building on Fifth Street) was scheduled for demolition and destined for the landfill, to be lost forever. An imaginative approach to design, along with an intuitive sense of Readings history, resulted in the rescue of one of the areas finest beaux arts designs with its incorporation into the Penn Square facade of the banks "Project Keystone". After careful demolition and thorough restoration, the unique terra cotta facade was re-erected at 431 Penn Street for future generations to enjoy. Design Team: Dennis Rex, AIA, Project Architect, AIA, Long & Tann, Inc., Structural Engineers; Beitmen & Huyett, Mechanical/Electrical Engineers |
