The Berkshire

Washington Street elevation

Location: Reading, Pennsylvania

Client: Windon Capital Management

Scope of Work: The intent, and the final outcome, was to create, within this 1913, 130,000 sq. ft. landmark building, flexible office space on the upper floors and retain commercial tenant spaces on the lower levels. As this building is located in Reading’s Callowhill Historic district, it was imperative that it was restored to its original architecture. Exterior renovations included reconstruction of the first floor windows, canopies, entrance doors and cornices; interior renovations included elevators, elevator lobbies, ballroom and restaurant. The building’s existing mechanical and electrical infrastructure was completely removed and replaced by completely new HVAC, plumbing, electrical and sprinkler systems.

Muhlenberg/Greene Architects provided space planning and complete interior design services for a full-floor law firm tenant, the ground floor restaurant and numerous smaller tenants’ offices.
